Humanity Road’s Weekly Activity Update

What have Humanity Road volunteers been up to this week?  Our digital disaster volunteers monitor on-going and potential disaster situations to assess for urgent unmet needs and to help propagate accurate and timely information.

This week our volunteers were monitoring:

Humanity Road volunteers have also been working on the following in the past week:

  • Honored service dogs during International Service Dog Week 2014
    • Humanity Road supported a social media awareness campaign about these very special and highly trained dogs.  Follow along by searching Twitter for #DAFN and #IADW (the hashtags for Disabilities, Accessibility & Functional Needs and International Assistance Dog Week)
  • Developing social media preparedness messages to support and inform people with disabilities or access and functional needs (DAFN) during emergencies.  You can still find the “lunchtime” informational videos on Humanity Road’s Twitter page
  • Starting with Humanity Road’s situation report for Hurricanes Iselle and Julio, a summary for vulnerable populations will continue to be an important addition to future reports
  • Lots of behind-the-scenes work to keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

Humanity Road welcomes our new volunteers and interns

  • We have welcomed six new volunteers in the past week.  We are excited to meet you!
  • Two new interns are beginning their training this month.  One will be assisting with Volunteer Management and Social Media in Disasters, and one will be assisting the Animals in Disaster Team with its social media accounts.  We are looking forward to working with you!
  • Additional interns are in the application and interviewing process.  Thank you all for your interest!
