Humanity Road’s weekly activity update

During the past week, among other things our volunteers have been busy monitoring major bushfire in Australia.

Adelaide Hills Fires – South Australia Province

  • Humanity Road was activated by @Hillsfirealert, an established group of local resident, to help amplifying public instructions and identifying urgent needs.
  • A total of seven volunteers assisted on this event. They contributed approximately 80-90 hours of service monitoring social media for urgent needs, performing data mining, staffing twitter and Facebook and publishing situation report.

Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake in Turkey

  • A small but very shallow earthquake has occurred in a very populated area of Turkey on January 8th. We monitored for traffic and discussions on impacts for this event. No important damages were reported.

Other Humanity Road activities:

  • Three new interns joined Humanity Road. A warm welcome to Robert Peterman, Domestic Social Media Listener; Claudia Espinosa and Laurel Jansury, International Public Information Officer for Social Media Emergency Management (SMEM).
