During the week, volunteers performed daily global health checks to monitor for current or onset disaster events such as wildfires, flooding, earthquakes and more. In support of our sustain mission, the team also provided information via twitter and facebook from FEMA on aid available to the east coast after #Irene and updated the information on our Irene event page for the public. Each contains a link to the full description of what aid is available for their location.
Sunday was the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Humanity Road shared tributes and national preparedness information from many organizations across the USA. The animals in disaster team supported the event with a 9/11 tribute to hero dogs in the AiD blog and RedCrossDog blog For upcoming events, the Animals in Disaster team met to discuss logistics and planning for the upcoming Barkworld convention. Volunteers assisted in putting together materials on the upcoming One Day One Dance - Peace Day Dance in Hollywood, FL on Sep 21st as well as attended a planning session for the upcoming Broward County Citizen Corps Conference September 24, 2011. We also worked on aspects of the upcoming Ft Bragg command post exercise with Quick-Nets, as well as provided feedback on #SMEM whitepaper
On September 13, Dongué Vincent bem de Paul monitoring events reported a high risk event in France involving a nuclear power plant. One person was reported dead in blast at French nuclear plant, but no leak reported. ASN activated its emergency center located at its headquarters in Paris XII. The accident happened at the nuclear facility Centraco (Centre for treatment and conditioning of low level waste) located on Codolet commune near the site of Marcoule (Gard). Volunteers working the event included Bettie Tussey, Christoph Dennenmoser, Toni McNulty, Vincent de Paul . Other events that volunteers monitored and responded to included a quake in Vancouver @humanityroad After an earthquake – Expect aftershocks & stay away from damaged areas. http://bit.ly/9T7IsB #hmrd #vancouver #bellevue, a geomagnetic storm which was followed by power outages in a multi-state area.
