On April 18, 2014 at 9:27am local time a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck near the western coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero, 265 km southwest of Mexico City. The Disaster desk was activate at 9:50am local time and the team monitored social media and amplified official messages. As of 1pm local time, some damage has been reported in the area near the epicenter and some phone and power appears to be out.
